Research interests:
The focus of research is bioarchaeology and the analysis of human remains from cremation burials in various cultural and chronological contexts. I study cremation burial rites as a complex technological and ceremonial process, focusing on reconstructing the individual stages of funeral rites and recreating the symbolic significance of funeral behaviors. I conduct research on cremation burial rites in Central Europe and Mesoamerica, especially in the western part of this cultural area.
I also study mobility and migration in prehistory, using strontium isotope analysis (⁸⁷Sr/⁸⁶Sr) as a method of identifying the geographical origin of the individuals studied. These analyses provide a means of reconstructing patterns of mobility and assessing the locality and non-locality of individuals in the early Iron Age, with particular reference to the cemetery at Domasław. This research allows for an in-depth understanding of the specifics of this cultural phenomenon, as well as capturing the dynamics of communities living in the Wrocław Plain in the early Iron Age. This enables a better understanding of the complexity of the networks of interaction in which the communities of that time participated, as well as the mechanisms shaping their social structure and interregional relations.
