Abstract.
In medieval Spain, after the invasion and during the Islamic domination of what was al-Andalus, the presence and the life of the conquered autochthonous Christian communities, have been increasingly involved in a process of Arabization and Islamization, transforming in a short time into what was a minority of religious resistance against the andalusí islamic society.
To date, much of the information we have about this process and these communities known as "Mozarabic" come from written sources and from the urban world. The key to improving the historical knowledge of these Christian groups and the Islamization to which they are subjected, on the one hand is obtaining new data from an archaeological perspective, and on the other to study the context of the rural world and to understand the weight and form of the agency of these peasant communities, through the capacity for action and the degree of decision in the sociopolitical practices of the time.
From this archaeological perspective, the results of the medieval village and the Mozarabic cemetery of Tózar are presented, showing one of the few rural Mozarabic settlements in the entire South of Spain that has been investigated in both aspect, life and death spaces. These new records and the new archaeological excavations that are planned, will continue and deeping its knowledge and will be able to give answers to some questions that we have raised about this topic.
